One Day on Waze

Google Data Arts Team Project

"One Day on Waze" is a collection of data visualization videos showcasing 24 hours' worth of data from the navigation app, Waze. You can explore the data created by Waze users in around the world in a single day, complete with the alerts and photographs everyone shares with the network. The street map was created through the accumulation of every data point, and nothing else.

The videos were crafted for the Connected Citizens event held in New York City on October 1, 2014. During the event, the videos were projected along a massive video wall at the venue, offering a captivating visualization of the data.

My Role:

As a senior design lead on the project team, my responsibilities spanned various areas, and I was instrumental in driving the project's design direction. Working closely with a junior designer, we jointly took on the task of designing the primary UI components of the data visualizations. This process required close collaboration with the engineering team to ensure alignment with product API capabilities. In addition, I was accountable for editing the rendered footage to adhere to the specific requirements for both the video wall display at the event and YouTube video uploads. Throughout the project, I offered guidance and mentorship to the junior designer, fostering a collaborative and productive design process.
